With the 2016 Oscars looming, awards season is in full swing! But how does this Red Carpet thing even work? This week we talk about the fantasy and the reality of what it takes to get a celebrity in a gown in front of a billion people. And why we think Fashion Police is the fucking WORST.

Firstly – let’s catch up!
We lost our damn minds when we saw this review from The Hollywood Reporter’s Pret-a-Reporter. High kicks, loud squeals and pats on the back all around.
Evan went back to Manitoba and found some new inspiration for his up coming collection. And snow. And more snow. And some cute animals.

Evan – no smile. Doggie – ALL SMILE.
Read all about Metis culture here! Learn somethin’ why dontcha!
Katie overcame many obstacles and much procrastination and made herself a super sweet rain poncho that definitely does not make her look like a doofus.

(NOT KATIE)
Abby used her mad sewing skills to make some damn cute overalls for her kid. The original “Michelle Tanners” on the left, the two new ones were made from the pattern she created from them. More to come because there ain’t nothing cuter than a toddler in overalls.
And now to the real topic at hand – RED CARPET!
We get a little hot under the collar about red carpet criticism and how best/worst dress lists are cesspools of vitriol and shittiness. Listen to the utterly entertaining Throwing Shade episode 217 to hear Erin and Bryan really get in to where it all began and how it’s quite simply the worst. Abby calls the reporters on the carpet “Red Carpet Numbnuts” and that description is apt.

Fashion Police, you suck.
Elizabeth Moss has the right attitude when it comes to stupid red carpet questions –
Wanna know EXACTLY what you’d need to do to get red carpet ready? Here is the Harper’s Bazaar article that Katie found. Oh, it’s GOOD.
But on to the business and mechanics of the red carpet – Who do you have to blow to get into a Dior couture custom gown these days?!

The South Park guys are doing everything right.
The Rachel Zoe Project was a great insider’s perspective on what it takes to get famous people in to one of a kind, cutting edge designs. Check out this clip from her show in 2009 that shows how this Chanel couture gown was altered for Cameron Diaz.
Some looks we talk about directly –

Anne Hathaway in Prada

Marion Cotillard in Jean-Paul Gaultier

And most recently, Julianne Moore in Givenchy
What do you do when you have a fabulous dress but nowhere to wear it? Be like Sarah Silverman and have an Oscar watching party and wear the shit outta that dress!

WERK.
And if you don’t know about Conchita Wurst – well consider this a public service announcement.
NOW OUR ALL-TIME FAVES!
Katie loves a good weirdo, so Bjork and Cher make her list. And Cate Blanchett is always flawless, even in a strange, fringed Givenchy gown.
Oh and this classic moment. Never forget.
Evan loves romance, flowing fabrics and a beautiful blonde – Reese, Cate and Diane.
Abby loves colour and great details on Zoe Saldana, Cate Blanchett (red carpet superstar!) and Michelle Williams.
And last but certainly not least – OBSESSIONS!
Katie has been going down rabbit holes of old school and vintage ski and apres-ski culture.
These guys are her spirit animals.
Evan can’t get enough of Brian Jordan Alvarez, you should really check out his new webseries The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo.
But before you get in to multiple episode of that, PLEASE WATCH THIS. AND YOU’RE WELCOME.
Abby is inspired by Where I See Fashion. Enable infinite scrolling on this tumblr and see you next year!
